Evaluation question 5
how did it attract your audience?
I have created a short film of people from my target audience explaining how they reacted to "wire" magazine. I felt that this was the best way for me to show what they really thought. Using feedback from this film and else where, I can see that my target audience related to the idea of respecting old school hip hop but wanting to stay on trend with what was occurring in this present day. Another big thing was discovering new artists, the price of the magazine was well suited to them and they really took to the idea of adding articles on fashion and many more ideas. The videos shown in the film are just a few of the reviews i received, I've used a collection both male and female audiences to reflect the fact that my magazine appeals to both sexes.
Evaluation question 7
looking back at your preliminary task, what have you leant in the progression from it to the full product?
There are many different forms to media presentation and how information can be shared with an audience. Magazine publishing is a growing media industry reaching out to millions globally. For the purpose of this evaluation I will demonstrate how I developed my knowledge with one particular form of media, which is that of creating my own magazine. The initial task was to create a school magazine that essentially would cater to an audience of my choice. My audience choice was young girls from St Catherine’s girl school from year seven to eleven. The idea was to develop a guide that would illustrate the best ways to survive coming into a new school and any changes to the school environment for the older year groups. Once this was completed I was able to move on to my full product which was a music magazine.
For my preliminary task I had to ensure that the ideas for the magazine reflected the audience, I learnt that the use of pictures were important as they illustrate to the audience what the magazine is about and whether or not it is directed to them. I was able to use this knowledge and demonstrate attention to detail in not just only considering my audience type but also when it came to small things in my work. For example, including the page number, the magazine website and how to get in contact with the magazine on twitter in small print at the bottom of my double page spread which gave a more professional look.
When it came to my music magazine I needed to take several different steps in order to ensure mistakes that were made in my preliminary task were not made this time around, because of this, I initially created a mood board to give me a few ideas of the target audience I wanted to represent. It was also useful as it kept me focused on what needed to be featured, such as color and themes. I was also able to gather more detailed research into different front pages, content pages and double page spreads. Whilst gathering my research I noticed that a number of magazines had made use of anchorage text, assuming audiences want to know more about certain subject matters. This was something I wanted to reflect on my magazine cover.

In the progression from my preliminary task to my full product I was able to test my knowledge on the two main software's we had to use. These were Photoshop and Adobe in design. Initially I found it difficult to use the software and came across a number of challenges such as editing photos and making sure they were in focus. I needed to learn how to use the tools in the correct way and establish what tools were best for different parts of my magazine and graphic features.
The software used to present our work is called Blogger. It was important for me to be able to use this software in order to demonstrate my work accurately. From working on my preliminary task I made progress in the use of this software for my full report for my music magazine. For example I was able to add labels and make good use of html codes. Overall I became better at posting more and demonstrating my work more frequently, adding more detailed research and producing more work
To concluded I learnt how to make better use of my time and keeping all my research focused on my target audience at all times. Despite a few challenges to the focus of my audience, I believe what I have created reflects the ideologies of my audience and my research helped me to develop this further. My magazine design stays true to values and beliefs of music lovers ages 15 to 25. Evidence of this can be found in my collation of videos in evaluation question 5.

Evaluation question 4
who would be the audience of your media magazine?
The target audience for “wire” magazine would be 15- 25 year olds of both sexes from low working class backgrounds however there may be others, interested in this magazine from middle class backgrounds. This is demonstrated in the magazine as we have a young black male dressed in a leather jacket on the front cover and then in an expensive suit on the content page. They would enjoy a RnB, rap, old school hip hop genre of music but may also appreciate other genres of music, represented by artists such as lana del rey or the weeknd. This is because the artists that are mentioned on the front cover of my magazine are the like of Rihanna who herself has produced pop, rap and RnB music. You would find people from my target audience shopping in places such as Topshop, Urban outfitters, BANK and occasionally in charity shops to purchase the odd vintage item for example a vintage oversized jean jacket. I have ensured that the clothing used in my magazine follows these fashion trends that appeal to my target audience.
In addition, other forms of media such as radio may attract my target audience. The genre of music my magazine reflects can be found to be playing on such radio stations like that of Choice.fm. The audience type for this radio station are people from African and Afro-Caribbean origin with a cross-over appeal to other listeners who appreciate urban contemporary music, which is similar to the target audience of my magazine.
My target audience would maybe refer to themselves as modern hipsters who are more into the urban, old school 90s hip hop sort of scene, but its mixed with fashion trends which are occurring in present day. For example on a casual day you may see someone of my target audience dressed in a vintage oversized jean jacket with quite a “snazzy” t-shirt which was a trend in the 90’s (for example if you look at the outfits worn on fresh prince of bel air or Mc Hammer) but with skinny jeans and air max 1s which is quite a recent trend. As well as that leather jackets are very in along with creepers and wearing hats. It is important to remember that when we speak of such trends what we are referring to is the fashion of 90’s America. My magazine is for UK young people who have put a twist to the American style of the past.
My target audience are quite young and due to the fact that they would be from the low working class backgrounds they would have a low budget which is why my magazine is £2.50. However my target audience would look up to such celebrities who live lavish lifestyles, expensive clothes e.g. suits, leather jackets, furs, designers, they almost use their music as an escape or like as a way to dream about having such a life which is why I have used a male model wearing a smart suit in my contents page. Nonetheless, because of their low budget they would have to stick to high street fashion.
In addition the sort of people my magazine would attract are the same people that are into social networking sites such as Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr because they would be attracted to the fact that not only can they keep up with recent artists but they would also be attracted to the fact that they could discover new artists and keep up with celebrity gossip and also start their own trends for example by posting pictures of outfits they wear every day.
Lastly culture would be extremely important to my target audience, significant events would be very important to them for example black history month, watching television channels such as BET which mainly broadcasts shows based on hip hop culture. Occasionally hosting special shows which either celebrate black history honouring people such as Martin Luther King or Malcom X or celebrating the lives of what this target audience would think were important artists dead and alive which still hold significance in this generation. Channels such as BET also celebrate the history of music through time, educating people of interest how the music we love has evolved from African drums to blues to rap and to what we listen to today and those that have made it possible. Reading such stories, like that of Frankie Banks in my double page spread, gives hope to the young readers that they too can become new musicians. Though there are a number of magazine choices for young people, my magazine can be categorized as an urban magazine for niche audience.
