the 'V' symbolises the title of the magazine, the faint grey colour fixed into the background faded into in the background, allows them to use a larger font for the 'V' without totally over powering the whole page, because as we can see the word 'contents' which they have made big, black and bulky stands out the most on the page. the word 'contents' has been split into three sections giving it a sort of unique twist.
like almost all contents pages, this has a column of writing which has all the details of what the magazine features including the page the features are on. this specific magazine also singles out the fashion pages, maybe because this is a music magazine however they want to highlight the fact that they have added in these pages because their target audience may really enjoy reading articles about fashion along with articles about music. although this contents page is not as full as a lot of other contents pages it seems to have a positive effect on the viewer because its interesting to look at with the hand going over Kanye west's chest clutching the Red heart, it all looks very dramatic.
the image of James blunt covers the majority of the page which suggests that he is the main focal point of he magazine. the serious expression creates tension and draws in the reader, he almost looks innocent. this use of direct address is important because it gets immediately catches the attention of the viewers. The magazine logo is printed clearly at the top left hand side of the page which is evidently a lot less subtle than the previous magazine we looked at, this could give a sense of confidence, sort of they "they're so well known, they would need to carry on advertising the magazine logo".
In this particular contents page there are two subheadings, this makes the magazine look more separated and breaks up the content, it makes it clear for the audience. the red arrow at the bottom of the page attracts the reader, it makes them want to turn over the page. the colours used on this magazine are red and black, these are contrasting colours and stand out to almost any audience, with the colour red also being key for the "Q" magazine. the white background makes the main image stand out even more.
on this particular magazine the facial expression of usher mixed with the way he is dressed implied confidence, trendiness and wealth, his posture, and the one hand in the pocket all just gives a very cocky attitude. His status as one of the best artists in R&B is portrayed very well within the actual image.
The dark, mysterious almost metallic colour of the background adds to the drama and mysteriousness of the image, however because it is a plain colour and there is nothing else in the image the main focus of the page is all on him, you don't really want to look anywhere else.
the emptiness of the page adds a lot of effect to the page, the fact that the page is plain may suit this magazines target audience because their readers may not want to see too much writing, they may find it more entertaining to be surprised by each article as they read along, instead of being told every single detail. however the page numbers and what will be found on each page is very clearly stated in the small but long column on the right hand side.
I knew for my contents page i wanted a male model which is why i have researched male models on contents pages. In all three contents pages, all three men have a very serious facial expressions, which some may even go as far as to say they all look quite arrogant. They're all dressed to look important (in exception to the second contents page where it is a close up shot of his face). All three men look like they're in a place of power, apart from the first contents page where even though he does look to be in a place of power, he also looks vulnerable the womans hand going over his shoulder clutching the bright red heart could signify heartbreak, but it all makes the reader more interested they want to know whats going on.
